It’s Wednesday again and so my post today is over at We Don’t Know Football. News continues to be pretty hard to come by of late, but Alex Ferguson’s decision to hand Manchester United’s iconic number seven shirt to Michael Owen is certainly quite interesting. Famously worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and it’s latest occupant Cristiano Ronaldo, the United faithful are a bit miffed that a little Scouse fella’ will be wearing it next season.
Traditionally too, the number seven shirt is given to the right winger, and so Antonio Valencia may have been the more obvious heir to the shirt, but I think that Ferguson has in fact been rather cunning in his allocation of it to Owen. United fans are seething about it now, but come the end of the season I do think they may change their tune, as Ferguson could be working his magic in mysterious ways here.
